Dennis N. Russell

Chief Dennis N. Russell began his career with the Wintergreen Police Department in November of 2008. He was promoted to the position of Sergeant in January of 2016 and assigned to the position of Accreditation Manager where he maintained and ensured the Department’s compliance with Accreditation standards set by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission. On January 1, 2018 he was promoted to Chief of Police replacing the previous chief who had retired.

His prior law enforcement experience includes 25 years with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida where he achieved the rank of Captain in Special Operations before retiring in 2006. Chief Russell holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Leo University.
