James Thomas

Accreditation Manager James Thomas joined the Wintergreen Police Department in 2014 after 26 years with the Waynesboro Police Department. He began his career at Wintergreen as the overnight dispatcher and firearms instructor, transferring to a patrol position as soon as one became available. Officer Thomas was assigned to the relief shift and has worked every shift in the department. He is a firearms instructor with 16 years of experience. In 2020 Officer Thomas was assigned to the Accreditation Manager’s position, where he is responsible for documenting the department’s commitment to excellence through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission accreditation process.

Officer Thomas earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Criminal Justice from Bluefield College. Prior to his law enforcement career, he served eight years in the United States Marine Corp in both reconnaissance and explosive ordinance disposal. In his off-hours enjoys spending time with family, sailing, woodworking, and serving in his church.
